Samsung 4G to deliver 1Gbps

In an interesting development which hints at WiMax technology being overshadowed before ever really getting going Samsung have announced and demonstrated 4th generation wireless technology delivers 1Gbit/s to stationary clients, and 100 Mbit/s to clients moving at up to 70 miles per hour!  Not bad huh!

Apparently for the demo Samsung had a specially developed bus driven at 37 miles and then delivered video on demand, a live broadcast and Internet access simultaneously.  The moving bus shows the capability of cell hand-over, something not really proven with WiMax as yet, and the speeds are approaching fifty times greater than mobile WiMax.

Samsung has stated that the technology will be available from 2008, and it will be interesting to watch developments.
